NexGen Mint
The museum’s educators have developed this evolving program based on ideas and suggestions from local teens.
The program launches in early 2015, with a rich menu of workshops, labs, events, and museum experiences. Teen participants explore, play, and experiment within a creative community of their peers and practicing artist role models.
Our Design Lab provides half-day project workshops for participants to interact with visiting designers and artists in a skill-intensive setting. With the Creative Lives Series, teens meet with visionary artists and have the opportunity to discuss new developments in the art world and possible career paths. Additionally, teens discover the museum with a Mint Teen Pass that provides easy, free access to the galleries at both Mint locations.
NexGen Mint empowers teens ages 14 to 18 to create and cultivate artistic experiences in response to The Mint Museum’s engaging collection and exciting special exhibitions. The program responds to focus group teens’ expressed desire to be part of the museum and learn more about art, careers, and the creative process from inspiring artists. In its pilot year, teens provide feedback to help create this new “third space” for themselves and their peers.
The Mint Museum would like to thank the Wells Fargo Foundation, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation and IBM for their generous support in making this initiative possible.
These programs are designed for high school participants ages 14 to 18.
